Johan made serene progress through the ranks at Arsenal and finally realised the potential everyone associated with the Club knew he possessed during 2010/11.
The Swiss defender made his Arsenal debut as long ago as October 2004 but, despite showing plenty of promise, his progress at Emirates Stadium has regularly been checked by injury. He certainly made up for lost time last season.
Johan is an accomplished centre back. He is assured with the ball at his feet, relishes a battle and has the pace and aerial ability to excel.
He has taken a traditional path to the first team, completing a loan spell at Birmingham in 2008 before making his mark in the Premier League. Now Johan wants to cement his place at the heart of the defence.
