Arjen Robben to Arsenal for under £10 million come early july?

There are plenty of solid shifts put in today, Szczesny and RVP were the be noticeable performers, the centre backs and full backs were excellent, Song solid, Rosicky good again, Arteta struggled as did Benayoun, Theo did reasonably well. More diving and Halsey shocking

He got numerous small decisions wrong and I won't bore you with these, but the fact that he missed two reckless Liverpool tackles that took place right in front of him without even awarding a free kick says it all. The first from Spearing, another piece of proper vile scouser, was a nasty straight legged lunge on Rosicky's shin, it could have been red, at least a yellow, Halsey did nothing. The second studs up lunge from Kuyt on Arteta was not as bad but was a pretty certain yellow and Halsey did nothing.

I really struggle with this Liverpool side, they are full of some rather nasty individuals and Steven Gerrard isn't even playing. Carragher does nothing but foul, RVP scored with a header just after Carragher had tried to push him down in the box, an obstruction later in the half on RVP in the box was a clear deliberate foul. Suarez' cheating, fouling and whinging is beneath contempt. Spearing is a nasty violent thug. The rest of them are constantly moaning and intimidating the officials, appealing for free kicks and thrown ins that they know very well are not due. What a sorry state football is in these days, so much cheating and so little sportsmanship on show.

Transfer fee for Podolski shows Wenger’s intent to put things right

Lukas Podolski has told FC Koln that he has decided to move to the Premier League and that his chosen team will be Arsenal.

Information coming out of Germany shows that all that is left for the move to happen in the summer is for the two clubs to agree a transfer fee.

Podolski’s contact runs out in 2013 and apparently Arsenal are willing to pay 15.250 m a sum which is expected to satisfy his present club.

Apparently Wenger made a move for Podolski in May 2011 offering 17m and again in November for 19m! However FC Koln were not willing to sell and Lukas himself did not want to move in mid season.

Beside the transfer fee Podolski’s wages are expected to reach around 82.000 per week or 4.3 m per year!

This shows that Arsene Wenger is already planning for next season in an attempt to avoid the last minute transfer fiasco of last summer where two major players left and three players came in on deadline day.

It also shows that he is seriously worried that RVP will be unwilling to stay unless Arsenal show real intent in challenging for honours next season by bringing in quality signings.

Podolski Finally Agrees To Join Arsenal

After a whole season of going back and forth between Arsenal and other European clubs, Podolski’s transfer rumours have finally reached an end now that German newspapers have announced that the International German striker has agreed to join Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has wanted to transfer the striker ever since last summer’s transfer window ended, but the deal couldn’t be completed in January despite Podolski’s statements saying that he’s highly interested in the possibility of joining the Emirates Stadium.

Now Arsene Wenger has finally agreed personal terms with Podolski, according to the German newspaper Bild, and the striker is going to join Arsenal in the summer when the transfer window will be opened again.

Jan Vertonghen chooses Tottenham over Arsenal?

It seems that Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger is about to lose out on a year long transfer target as Ajax’s Belgian defensive man Jan Vertonghen declared that he’d be highly interested in signing with Tottenham.

During the last few months Vertonghen has been linked with a number of teams throughout Europe, but those which stood out the most were rival clubs Arsenal and Tottenham.

When asked what would he think about a move to Tottenham in the summer, although he’s highly aware of Arsenal’s interest he replied:

“This is a fantastic club. You can see how well they do this season. They are in the top three in England and that is where I want to play.”

Tottenham’s Harry Redknapp is the one who wanted him at the club so if he takes over the English national squad Arsenal’s chances of snatching him could increase.

Vertonghen could be of use for the Gunners given the fact that he’s able to cover the center spot in the defense, the left-back and the defensive midfielder spot if needed as well.

Van Persie hints at new Arsenal contract and laughs at Tottenham!

Arsenal’s captain Robin Van Persie couldn’t help but make fun of arch rivals Tottenham in an interview he gave recently just after the incredible win the Gunners managed against Tottenham.

“What’s funny is that people are discussing the best Tottenham team ever and the worst Arsenal team. And we just beat Tottenham. Funny how strange football can be,”

The striker also cleared the air on what will happen with him once the season will be over saying that he’s going to “have a cup of coffee” with Kroenke and Wenger and negotiate the contract extension everyone is waiting so eagerly for him to sign.

“I have been at Arsenal for eight years and I’m proud. At the end of the season I will sit down with the coach and the president” said van Persie to Voetbal International.

“Then we will make a cup of coffee and sit down together. I am a true Gooner. I love this club and that’s no secret.”

Hopefully Robin will be here for what we hope will be the best Arsenal team in their history next season after a few top quality signings are expected to come in using the money they got from selling Nasri and Fabregas.

A game to remember – a win to savour

5-2? What a day, and not just for the bookies. Hyperbole it may be, but I can think of few more suitable games to be described as epic.

I admit it, I approached this game full of pessimism.  We’re not as bad as some make us out to be but it is beyond dispute that we have declined, while our N17 neighbours have finally, finally got themselves a decent squad.  Our fragility is such that I felt I’d have been pleased with one point today.  Not in my wildest dreams did I expect us to thrash the old enemy and in such dramatic fashion.  Scoring enough goals to go back above Chelsea was not on my agenda.

Theo Walcott An Appeal

After a frustrating first half against the enemy on Sunday he refused to let his head go down and had a storming second 45, capped with two expertly taken goals.

If you believe some of the press, our young wide man was subjected to a dog’s abuse by a proportion of the home support before half time.

Matt Dickinson in The Times had this to say:

“If Arsène Wenger had listened to the fans, Theo Walcott would have been sat on the bench in the second half. If Walcott had listened to the fans, he might have been weeping in the dressing room despairing at how they expect him to perform if he is such a “useless c***”…
“Fickledom is the way of the supporter but, truly, some of the Arsenal hardcore did not deserve to be allowed to stay in their seats for this astonishing comeback.
“They should ask Walcott if he felt buoyed when he had the chance to sprint clear of Tottenham Hotspur’s defence in the first half but instantly offloaded the ball to Robin van Persie rather than risk another volley of “P”s, “C”s and “F”s.
“Some of the angriest men in the world seem to gather at the Emirates, so quick to seize on any mistake that you wonder if they are willing failure.”

Spuds on Sunday after a week of silliness

A lot of hot air has been spouted over the last couple of weeks, admittedly some of of the chat has hit the nail on the head, unfortunately the sensible intelligent comment has been in the minority. The talk of sacking the manager mid season is utterly ludicrous, it would be a sure fire way of destabilising the squad further and finishing as low down the table as possible.

Certainly the board and manager have combined in recent years to inadequately invest in our squad to keep that core of experienced top drawer talent at the club. For a variety of complex reasons we have lost too many top players and we have brought in too many average players, both young and not so young.
